Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the indoor entertainment in Salt Lake City is delightful. Recently we were able to attend a Salt Lake City Stars game and I must say, it was the perfect family friendly activity.
Who are the Salt Lake City Stars?
Not to be confused with the old WNBA Starzz, the Salt Lake City Stars are the G league team to the Utah Jazz. The G League is the NBA’s official minor league. Featuring 26 teams – all with one-to-one affiliations with NBA franchises – in the 2017-18 season, the league offers elite professional basketball at an affordable price in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.
What happened to the D-League?
This season, the NBA Development League (or D-League) has been renamed the NBA G League as part of a multiyear expanded partnership between the NBA and Gatorade (hence the G).
What makes it so family friendly?
Really, I was skeptical about going to a minor league basketball game. But it turned out to be more fun than I thought. My kids were in heaven and loved everything about the experience. They have a kid zone where your children can get their face painted, have fun in the inflatables, or get a balloon ladybug. They also have fun themed nights and we were lucky enough to be there of Star Wars night.
The prices are family friendly too. Lets say you want to take the family to the movies on a Friday night. An adult ticket costs around $12 ($24 for a couple), and $9 for a child ($18 for two kids). That would be $42, and that’s not even including any treats that we all buy.
Go to a Stars game and tickets range from $5-25. Personally, I don’t think there is a bad seat. The games are held at the SLCC Lifetime Activities Center at eh Salt Lake Community College Redwood Campus. Just getting four $5 tickets is less than half of what you would pay for a movie. Plus, the kid zone is free with your admission.
Then at the end of the game you meet two of the players, get their autograph, and picture. You don’t get that at a movie now do you. Basically, attending a Salt Lake City Stars game is what you need to do this season. Your family will love it and attending a live sporting event is much more fun for parents when it’s catered to children. So get your tickets today.
