Maybe Christmas Means More

In How the Grinch Stole Christmas I love the line, “Maybe Christmas, he thought… doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps… means a little bit more!” But raising kids in a world where all we think about are the presents and the things that we want or maybe need makes it hard to focus on what matters most. How do you teach your kids what is most important and make them appreciate what is the most important things in life?

Ikea released a commercial that blew me away:

How many of us get so focused on the things we can give that we lose sight of the time we can spend together.  I hope to teach my kids that Christmas isn’t all about the lists, things or gifts, but about the time that we spend together. I don’t want my kids asking for me to read to them more, or to play with them because these are things I already do.

I want my kids to appreciate the things that they have and I especially want them know that I care about spending time with them, making it memorable. I love being with my children every spare moment I have and I will try a little harder during this holiday season to make sure that they have the quality time that these ad children long for. Toys will come and go, but memories and time together last forever.
