It’s Father’s Day and there is nothing better on a hot day like today than ice cream, but not any kind, some homemade Nutella ice cream. Absolutely refreshing, but also giving dad what he wants on his day: Nutella ice cream! I mean, I don’t know anyone that doesn’t love Nutella or ice cream. Put those two things together and you have gotten your dad the greatest Father’s Day gift he could ever ask for.

Growing up I loved ice cream, but would always have the worst stomach ache every time I ate it. Come to find out I am lactose intolerant and that put a huge damper on my ice cream eating.

Fast forward to being an adult, I went to a friend’s house for family dinner one Sunday and their parents had homemade ice cream that I had to try. Since then I was hooked. I didn’t care what it did to my stomach, I was going to eat homemade ice cream even if it killed me.

Then for our wedding we got an ice cream maker, but we all know that you never use your wedding gifts until about 2 years into your marriage. Well good thing we have passed that mile stone. I had some Nutella in the cupboard and thought, how good would it be to have homemade Nutella ice cream? Turns out, it’s so good!

Homemade Nutella Ice Cream

Serves: 1 gallon
Refreshing treat that everyone who’s anyone will love because it’s Nutella ice cream.
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 (12 oz) cans evaporated milk
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs***
  • 1 cup Nutella (or more if you’d like)
  • whole milk
Instructions
  1. With an electric mixer, cream eggs and sugar.
  2. Add evaporated milk, condensed milk, and vanilla. Beat well.
  3. Pour into an electric ice cream churn. Add whole milk to fill line. Insert dasher.
  4. Pack cooler 1/3 full with ice. Add a layer of rock salt. Repeat layering with ice and salt until full.
  5. Note: be careful not to overfill, spilling salt into the churn. When machine starts to labor or shut off, remove the dasher and drain water. Fill with more ice and salt. Cover with a towel and let harden.
  6. ***For those concerned about raw eggs, pasteurized liquid eggs may be substituted.
