Small Space Nursery Ideas

When we found out we were pregnant with a little girl we couldn’t have been more excited, but once we thought about it we wondered how we were going to make the nursery work since they would have to share a room. When you live in a condo you don’t have lots of space, but there are so many great things out there to make it work. You really can get a look that isn’t over crowded and works for both kids.

My wife comes from a long line of quilters, so it was only fitting to make special quilts for our daughter like we did for our son. Then, our son loves animals, but we didn’t want to get tacky with the animals so we kept them real baby prints. You can’t go wrong with prints from The Animal Print Shop.

My wife did a quilt exactly like this Olive one for our son with his name on it. We documented his first years growth by taking pictures of him with his quilt each month. My mother-in-law did the bright colored one with squares. Of course, now that we have a girl we had to get more floral and bright colors. The sheet is from KB Cute Designs.

See how I love The Animal Print Shop prints? They really are just so cute! Of course we have Tubby Todd lotion by our changing station. Love lathering up our little ones in this amazing moisturizer. The smell is absolutely delicious. We also make sure to keep plenty of swaddles close by. These ones are KB Cute Designs and I love the stretch they have and the floral patterns.

nixon clothing drawer

We love to keep our kids clothes completely organized so it’s all easy to find and we can see everything we have. Our favorite brands for our little guy are Hello Apparel, Crewcuts (J Crew for kids), Gap Kids and Peek Kids.

We have been moving our son from the Freshly Picked soft soles to hard soled shoes. Thankfully Freshly Picked recently released their For Every Step shoes that have a hard sole, but are still just as easy to get on and stay on. We also love New Balance, Baby Chuck Taylors, Salt Water Sandles and Adidas. Our favorite socks are Stance and my son loves picking which socks he wants to wear. If you need some great bow ties for kids: Forage Haberdashery and Crewcuts.

What’s a girl without her accessories drawer. We love our Freshly Picked moccasins. Of course her feet are still a little too small for the crib moccasins, but any day now we will be able to sneak them on with thick socks. These tights from Baby Gap are absolutely adorable, but they will drown our daughter at this point.

Now, if you are looking for the perfect toddler bed, Land of Nod has the best selection. Their beds are sturdy, cute and amazing quality. We love the Good Manor toddler bed with the high head bored. Then how perfect is the I’m Not Tired pillowcase from Hello Apparel for any toddler. I will say, it wasn’t the easiest getting our son to convert to the toddler bed, but we have it set now and he loves his bed. Also, every kid needs a Saranoni blanket to cuddle up with either when going to bed or for laying on the couch. Of course, the quilt was made by my mother-in-law. We love having unique bedding for our kids that no one else has.

We love reading to our kids. So we wanted to have a little reading section in their room. This is great to keep blankets, favorite books and some simple toys. Obviously we love the Where the Wild Things Are book with this cute print. Then my wife took the pages out of Where the Wild Things Are and modge podged them onto a vintage globe that she had. It’s fun because you can see the whole story just turning the globe around.

And finally, a collection of our favorite things: clothes, books, toys, swaddles. This is where we put our favorite and nicer clothes. Anything from Burberry, J Crew, June & January, Peek, vintage Ralph Lauren. Love these bins from Land of Nod that our son can just pull out and get the toys out that he wants to play with. It’s all about organization with us.

I just love being in their room with them cuddling on the floor or in my son’s bed with him listening to music or reading stories. These are the places that my kids are going to remember forever and I want it to be a place that they could both feel like was their room.
