I am coming up on my 33rd birthday and I couldn’t be more excited. If you know anything about me you KNOW that I love birthdays and celebrating birth-MONTHs. I love thinking about what I want for my birthday and what kind of bow is going to be tied around my gifts. Well, Forage Haberdashery is the perfect bow…tie for every modern dad’s birthday wish list.
I honestly have an obsession with bow ties. It started years ago when I was about 12, my neighbor would always wear bow ties to church. People always kind of snickered at him because it was different. It wasn’t what everyone else was doing. That was intriguing to me. I hated being like everyone else, but I was also in that awkward “everyone will make fun of me” stage where I didn’t want to step out of my comfort zone so I didn’t jump on board yet.
Skip forward to 2008 when I walked into Nordstrom and bought my first bow tie. It was purple and white striped (I still own it). Something happened when I would put on that tie. I felt like a gentleman. The only thing was, I didn’t know how to tie it. Fortunately, the tie had buttons in the back for sizing and I could just unbutton them to take it off, while still keeping the bow in tack.
Fast forward to October 2012, my wedding day. I had purchased two ties for my wedding, both from Brooks Brothers, a bow tie and a regular tie as a back up. When I was in the temple changing into my clothes before going out the doors with my beautiful wife I pulled out my bow tie and tried to put it on. I didn’t have a clue to what I was doing and quickly gave up, putting the regular tie on.

Could it really be that easy? To me it’s easier than tying a regular tie. Not only that, but they made me feel more sophisticated, like I was someone that people needed to listen to. I was finally able to be that gentleman I had always dreamed of being, and all because of a simple bow that I tied around my neck.
I honestly wear these ties anywhere I go: work, church, night out with my family, a Tuesday afternoon, the gym (okay maybe not), Christmas parties, regular parties, and when I’m feeling like I could be a chip and dale dancer (that’s my wife’s favorite).
